Five Second Rule: Olive Oil

Lemony Arugula Spaghetti Cacio e PepeI love starting a new blog series. I’ve tried many times to start a series – some of which never saw the light of day while others just fizzled out. Currently my 5 minute cocktail series is still a thing, which I love; I’m not planning on it going anywhere. I’m now embarking on another series – one of which I’ll keep around for a while – at least that’s the plan. This one is called: Five Second Rule, which I’ll explain in a second. We’re starting the series off with olive oil recipes but first, let’s learn more.

The idea for Five Second Rule came from the want (and need) to share older/updated recipes from the blog but also recipes from my adventures on the internet. I spend a lot of time researching recipes and getting inspiration and I wanted to find a creative way to share those recipes. And so begins the five second rule.

We’ve all heard of the five second rule. Your food touches the ground and you have to pick it up within five seconds in order for it to still be considered “safe” to eat. That so-called rule has been debunked, but that’s the inspo for the name behind this series. My personal rule: if something falls on the floor just don’t eat it. Especially if you’re in public and can’t vouch for the cleanliness of said floor. Gross. Anyway, Five Second Rule will feature 5 recipes all focusing on one specific ingredient. Some of these recipes will be from Eat.Drink.Frolic. others may be from other food sites that I love.

I hope you’ll use this series as inspiration when you’re looking for recipe ideas!

Five Second Rule: Olive oil recipes

We’re kicking off the inaugural post of the series with olive oil as the ingredient. Olive oil is simple, most of us have it in our pantry and it has such great complex flavors – you should be using it more. So here are five of my favorite recipes in which olive oil is the star. Ready?

LEMONY SPAGHETTI CACIO E PEPE
I make this recipe at least twice a month. There’s a decent amount of olive oil in it which makes the pasta glisten and the flavors blend together. (RECIPE)

OLIVE OIL BRAISED COLLARD GREENS
The gift that keeps on giving. I love these greens so much. They’re reminiscent of the greens my grandmother used to make but cooked in less time and braised in olive oil. (RECIPE)

ORANGE OLIVE OIL CAKE
You may not know it but olive oil and dessert go together really well. This orange olive oil cake is really light in flavor and pretty easy to replicate. (RECIPE)

ROASTED POBLANO & CAPER SALSA
Salsa is one of the easiest dishes to make and I love all of ingredient possibilities. This salsa has more olive oil in it than average salsa might and it’s delicious. (RECIPE)

LEMON & GARLIC BAKED CHICKEN
Like the spaghetti cacio e pepe, I make this pretty often. It’s easy and uses just a handful of ingredients and the olive oil plays a major part in making this chicken flavorful. (RECIPE)
