We’re all glued to our phones these days and even though it can be a bit antisocial let’s face it: we love it. I’m on my phone all the time whether I’m texting someone, sending an email or checking my social media, it’s (unfortunately) always in my hand. I try to be conscious of how tied to my phone I am when I’m at dinner with John or out with friends and its a work in progress. There are times when I love unplugging and not immediately responding to text messages or answering phone calls – it’s refreshing. Sometimes the phone can get in the way of human interaction which sucks. But during the time that I am on my phone, there are a few iPhone apps that I find useful and fun.
Obviously I love Instagram. For one, Instagram is a part of my weekly tasks of promoting my blog, columns and other projects. I also manage a couple of other Instagram accounts so that obviously keeps me busy. Quite a few Instagram updates have taken place that makes managing multiple accounts much more tolerable. Also, I just simply love Instagram.
Like I mentioned, I love Instagram. I’m often promoting my blog there. Sometimes I need to edit photos on the fly and even though there are many apps out there, Pic-Tap-Go is one of my favorite photo editing apps. You can create “recipes” for your photos and the app allows you to save those recipes so you can apply them to other photos. It’s easy to use and very user-friendly.
Why is a parking app one of my favorite applications? Because it’s so convenient. This app eliminates having to scramble for change in your purse or in your car and allows you to pay for parking meters with your phone. There are a lot of cities that have gotten rid of the “old school” meters to allow folks to pay with credit cards but this app lets you head to your destination without even having to visit the meter. It’s a lifesaver. When you download the app, you’ll have to enter in your credit card information or a Paypal account along with your license plate. But once that’s complete, you’re good to go.
I love Open Table for making reservations on the go. Sometimes, if I’m super busy and may not have time to call a restaurant, Open Table makes it so easy to make reservations. You can make requests (like if you’re celebrating a birthday or an anniversary). You can even get points for certain reservations. Points = dining credits. I’ve been using Open Table for quite some time and love it!
I write a lot. Sometimes I get writer’s block or simply can’t think of the word I’d like to use. Enter my handy Dictionary app. Sometimes (a lot of times) I need a thesaurus and the Dictionary app not only defines words but it also has an awesome thesaurus option that I use quite often all of the time. I use this app to help me get out of my writing depression and find some new words. It’s quick and easy to use.
Honorable mention iPhone apps
Target
I’m in Target all of the time and this app combines Cartwheel (Target’s coupon program) and all the good things you can purchase from Target too. It’s pretty great.
Chipotle
No, I don’t have a Chipotle where I currently live but when I’m in a city that does, this app is very convenient. You can skip the line!
