Succession Sunday (ep 5): Django Reinhardt cocktail

Jump to recipe

I’ve been looking for a reason to use some vermouth I’ve had in the fridge – outside of making a martini – and I found the answer in this cocktail. Like I said before, I’m not sure that martinis are my friend and while I’m not 100% ready to quit figuring it out, I think I know where I stand. Anyway, vermouth is a new-to-me ingredient to have at home and now I have something else to sip it with besides a martini.

When I learned about this cocktail, I was intrigued by the name of it. Why is it called Django Reinhardt? Who is Django Reinhardt? You know, all the questions. While I still don’t know why it’s referred to as a Django Reinhardt, I did find out that Mr. Reinhardt was a jazz guitarist and composer. Maybe you knew that.

I think I’m a fan of this Django Reinhardt cocktail and I’m 100% certain I’ll keep it on rotation.

How to: Django Reinhardt Cocktail

Like I mentioned in last week’s Succession post, I feel like we need to pay attention the details taking place on Succession so this drink isn’t heavy on the alcohol. We gotta keep our wits about us, you know? That Roy family is always keeping us on our toes.

The only alcohol in this drink is the vermouth so it’s very light and won’t give you a nasty hangover either. I’d imagine like with any recipe, you can make different variations of it. I haven’t tried to experiment yet but we have options. Since this drink is pretty citrus forward, you could try something like grapefruit instead of an orange. You could even try to use simple syrup made with honey or brown sugar instead of granulated sugar.

There are options, people!

One more note about this drink. I read that it could even be considered as a replacement for your brunch mimosas. I mean, I do love bubbles but I’ll admit, this light cocktail wouldn’t be so bad alongside a serving of french toast.

OK, let’s make this drink.
