In December, John and I traveled to Miami with our friends, Jennifer & Walter. Jennifer and I purchased tickets to a conference and when you have an opportunity to attend a conference in sunny Miami in December, you jump on it. Then we had the bright idea to make it a couples’ trip – so we invited the husbands. It was a much-needed getaway and I’m excited to finally update my Miami weekend guide!
The last time John and I went to Miami, we went for Fourth of July weekend just for a super-random trip. The plane tickets were good so we jumped on it. The very first time I went to Miami I was a sophomore in college and it was spring break. That trip still makes me laugh when I think about it. We were so young and so naive. One thing I remember very vividly about that trip is meeting Tyson Beckford. It was like a dream come true (give me a break, I was 19). The point of this post is not about Tyson Beckford – it’s about a quick Miami weekend guide for your traveling pleasure.
Anyway, my most recent trip to Miami didn’t have any Tyson Beckford sightings but it did make for a really fun time.
Our Miami weekend guide
We were in Miami during Art Basel, which means that in addition to awesome art shows, there’s a lot of things happening in the city. We did a lot but these are two of the most memorable (in addition to the constant laughing):
Every year during Art Basel, Swizz Beatz does an art show called No Commission. We went to see the photography exhibit he curates but we also went to the party he throws. The party, of course, included a cameo from Swizz himself (and his wife and friend in my head, Serena Williams) but also a concert. The performers are usually kept quiet until you’re there and it was well worth it (Meek Mill, A$AP Ferg, Fat Joe and so many more). Needless to say, we had a lot of fun.
Second, John got a chance to see his favorite DJ (Jazzy Jeff) on the last night we were in Miami. It was pretty cool. Also can I just say: it doesn’t appear that DJ Jazzy Jeff has aged much. Not sure what he and the Fresh Prince are drinking but I need some.
OK – enough babbling, click the button below to access my Miami Weekend Guide. Have fun!
WAIT! There’s more…
I forgot to mention. One of the bars we went to, Gramps, was a location for Miracle – a Christmas pop-up bar! Full disclosure, Christmas isn’t necessarily my favorite time of the year BUT this pop-up will make any Scrooge turn into a Christmas angel. This bar was awesome – mainly because I’m a sucker for themed things. These pop-ups are across the nation during the holiday season and they’re quite magical in my opinion.
OK – now here’s the guide.
