Art galleries have always made me curious about art but never curious enough to learn more about the artists or techniques used to create certain pieces…until now. After visiting the Hart Gallery for the first time last year, I fell in love with the space, the art and the vibe that you get when you walk in. Little did I know, my first visit definitely wouldn’t be my last visit. I’ve attended quite a few events at the H*Art Gallery and most recently worked with a local school that partnered with H*Art Gallery and another local nonprofit, Mark Making, to create a beautiful mural.

H*Art Gallery is unlike any other gallery I’ve visited. This is a gallery that as a nonprofit, offers the homeless and other non-traditional artists an opportunity to create and sell their artwork. From supplying art materials to providing mentoring classes to other nonprofit community organizations, the H*Art Gallery is changing what ‘traditional’ art looks like on a daily basis.
Another awesome way that H*Art Gallery’s owner, Ellen Heavilon, fulfills the gallery’s mission is by launching a new program called H*Art Works where local artists are able to come in and work on their craft.

I stopped in recently to chat with staff and snap a few pictures; cool way to spend a little bit of my afternoon.
H*Art Gallery even has a community garden behind their building!
