Succession Sunday: Rum & Coke

Jump to recipe

Last week, I debuted my new series, Succession Sunday, where I suggest a drink idea to sip while watching Succession (obviously on Sunday nights). Before you go any further, I want to let you know that this series will not contain any spoilers. I may reference certain episodes and scenes but I promise I won’t give any significant plot details. Cool?

At the time of me writing this, I haven’t watched the season 3 premiere yet but I’m counting down the minutes. Update: I’ve watched. So last week, it was all about the martini (gin martini to be exact) and that was because I wanted to start with a very strong bang. Whew. Martinis aren’t for the faint of heart and even though I’m currently on a mission to see if I like them, I can’t say that I’m a fan for sure.

Why a rum & coke?

I know what you’re thinking: a rum & coke seems pretty basic. Yes, you’re right but this series isn’t supposed to make your cocktail time more complicated. I’m all about easy drinking over here. So, I chose a rum & coke yes, for level of ease but also because it made me think of a certain scene in Succession.

I won’t give too much away but I think it was season 1 (I could be wrong) when all the Succession men went out to a club for a bachelor party. Well, lots went on into those scenes, including drugs, which brings me to…a rum & coke. I know that seems kind of vague especially if you’ve never seen Succession but just trust me on this one.

I will say with this particular drink, I added a little twist to it by using Cherry Coke instead of regular Coca-Cola. Once in a while, I crave Cherry Coke and I thought that would be a decent switch up this time around.

Cheers to this new season of Succession and I can’t wait to share more drinks!
