Our Getaway House in the Chattahoochee

Recently, John and I spent an evening away in a Getaway House cabin in Suches, GA. I made a quick Instagram Reel recapping our trip here. We’ve both been pretty busy between work, John’s DJing gigs, keeping Mason alive and just life in general so a quick getaway was much-needed. Additionally, you know I’ve mentioned my 40×40 list a couple of times here before (I promise, I’ll share more on that at some point) and taking this getaway knocked off two items on my list:

  • Have a quick getaway with John.
  • Go camping/glamping.

Staying in a Getaway cabin is far from camping but I think it’s safe to consider it as a glamping experience. But truth be told – this is my kind of camping.

Our Getaway House experience

Honestly, I feel like John was a little apprehensive about going. Not because he wasn’t into staying a night in the woods but probably because I didn’t do a decent job of explaining to him what it was. Who knows. I think it’s safe to say, though, he was pleasantly surprised once we got there. Buckle up because I’m sharing a recap of our experience.

BOOKING
Booking was a breeze. Simply choose which city you’d like to get away from and book your cabin. It’s really easy. Keep in mind though, Getaway cabins aren’t available in every state. Getaway will email you all you need to know as far as packing and what to expect. You’ll get your exact cabin location and the code to get in the day before you check-in.

CUSTOMER SERVICE
I was most impressed with their customer service. They answered both an email and a text in an impressive amount of time and they were pleasant while doing it. Top-notch.

THE CABIN
Getaway House cabins are small but perfect (between 140 – 200 square feet). The Getaway folks have remembered everything you’ll need during your stay to make life easy for you. They provide items like:

  • pot and pan for indoor cooking (there are two burners inside)
  • salt, pepper, olive oil, sugar, creamer
  • plates, bowls, mugs, cups
  • complimentary s’mores (yes!)
  • wine opener, knife

You can find a full list of what they provide on their website.

Inside you’ll also find a mini fridge, playing cards and a radio. The best part, though? Cabins have a lovely functional bathroom stocked with towels and washcloths. The beds are comfortable (queen-size) and if there are more than 2 of you staying in a cabin, they offer ones with queen-size bunk beds – perfect if you’re taking your kids.

OUTSIDE YOUR CABIN
Outside your cabin you’ll find a picnic table, fire pit (fit for cooking outdoors) and chairs to sit in. They provide wood (for purchase) and a lighter to help get your fire started.

Would we go back to a Getaway House?

The short answer: yes.

I can’t stress enough how easy they make everything. There are additional amenities (like coffee, hot chocolate, etc.) that they provide for a very small price. You use what you want then they send you an itemized bill & receipt. We ended up packing ingredients for dinner and breakfast and took our cast iron skillet to make campfire nachos and steak & eggs for breakfast. We also took a couple of our favorite seasonings (Auntie Nono’s & 8020 Creole BBQ Rub).

I also had a couple of cans of margaritas from Post Meridiem on deck. Obviously.

Tips for going:

  • There’s absolutely no wi-fi (which is great). Take a book or a couple of magazines to read. I took my copy of The Vanishing Half – a book I’ve been trying to read for the last year and just stopped. A night at a Getaway House forced me back into reading the book and I’m not quite halfway through but close.
  • Be prepared to potentially not have great phone service. Download your cabin map just in case.
  • Check out what’s nearby. A lot of outposts have cool hiking trails or other activities somewhat close.
  • Take a deep breath and just chill.
