A peek into our nursery

In the midst of my third trimester, we moved. On top of all the things we already had going on, we got back from a trip, found a house and off we went. We wanted a bigger space so we could have a bit more room once we welcomed Mason. Most importantly, we wanted a nursery. I wanted a room that I could decorate and that would be all hers. Let’s be honest though, she doesn’t spend any time in there right now since she’s not sleeping alone yet.

Even though her nursery is pretty much set up, there’s still some work to do but the bulk of it is done. If you’re a soon-to-be parent reading this: do not pressure yourself to have the nursery perfect before the baby arrives. Don’t get me wrong, it’s awesome that our nursery is mostly done because we don’t have to worry about it now that she’s here. Babies, even though they’re tiny, take up a lot of your time. However, if you’re not able to set up your child’s nursery prior to their arrival, life will still go on.

Throughout pregnancy, I was constantly asked if I had a theme for Mason’s nursery. The short answer: no. As I started to see things that I liked, I realized I just wanted to have some llamas and rainbows in there. That’s a theme, right? I guess I’m going for whimsical here.

As I type this, her nursery is still a work in progress. Even when I quickly snapped these photos, I was still pondering things to buy and how to decorate. The original plan was to photograph the nursery (fully complete) before Mason arrived but that didn’t happen. These photos were taken about a week after we brought her home and I’m still in the process of getting her nursery together. That’s the way life goes sometimes.

Mason has tons of books and these are three of my favorites. Her library situation is still being worked out (read: we had an idea that didn’t work out) so it’s still a work in progress. I’m planning to purchase this bookshelf for her room, thanks to my friend Steph for the inspiration.

OK this little section is a little messier than I anticipated but Mason doesn’t mind. We have this changing pad, which I love but John is convinced that Mason can’t get changed without something snuggly. Hence the reason for the blanket on top of the changing pad. Here’s a link to our changing table too.

We went with this IKEA crib because it had good reviews and it’s super-affordable.

Oh! the decals on the wall are from The Lovely Wall Company (another recommendation from my friend Steph). These took a bit of time to put up but they’re well worth it AND they come off really easy without damaging the wall.

I scored the creepy (but cute) llama stuffed animal from Anthropologie and the ‘no drama llama’ print from Walmart.

I knew I wanted a rug for her room and I just happened to find the perfect one from Rug USA. All of the rugs in our house are from Rug USA.

My most prized possession in her nursery is this cloud weaving piece that I made myself in a class at The Chattery. I’m quite proud of it.

Last but not least, my favorite little corner in Mason’s nursery. The alpaca and the lion prints are my absolute favorite. Aren’t they the cutest? The purple elephant was handmade by one of our friends, Jess, who’s an amazing woodworker.

So there you have it – a little peek into our nursery. I’m sure once she’s spending a bit more time in there, I may have an update. We shall see.
