I know I didn’t share a lot (or hardly anything) about my pregnancy. Honestly, that was purposeful. Everyone has an opinion about something and with this being my first (and probably only) pregnancy, I didn’t want to be overwhelmed with everyone’s opinions. I’ve found that the most vocal opinions come from those who aren’t parents or haven’t experienced pregnancy and while they mean well, I have a very small circle of friends (plus my doctor, obviously) who I trust for advice. The one thing I did not need advice on, though, was pregnancy snacks.
Now that I’ve gotten that out of the way, let’s talk about the fun stuff: SNACKS. The movies always portray weird, slightly disgusting, cravings during pregnancy and that didn’t happen for me. Yes, I had some cravings that were out of the ordinary for my usual snacking pleasure but none of it was gross. At least I don’t think it was…hmmm.
The pregnancy snacks I noshed on the most
I thought it would be fun to share my most-eaten pregnancy snacks. I like to think of myself as a snack queen anyway so snacking during pregnancy was a breeze! Here’s a glimpse into what I snacked on during this interesting period in my life.
Pickles
I feel like this is such a cliché but it’s true. I don’t have to be pregnant to enjoy pickles; I love them on burgers and sandwiches. But pregnancy caused me to request that we buy jars of them from the store. While dill pickles are my classic go-to, bread & butter pickles were my favorite.
Stacy’s Pita thins + Sabra hummus
I like pita chips and I like hummus but they typically don’t make it on our weekly shopping list…unless, I’m pregnant. It was one of my favorites to snack on especially when I needed a mid-day pick-me-up. As far as the hummus goes, Sabra’s supremely spicy was the most preferred.
Goldfish/Cheez-Its
Honestly, these are snacks I eat all of the time so it didn’t surprise me that my craving for cheesy cracker snacks increased while I was pregnant. In fact, I’m snacking on Cheez-Its as I type this.
Pears
I like pears and buy them occasionally but while I was pregnant these were always on our grocery list. Yes, for the taste (Bosc pears are my favorite) but also because I read pears were a good source of fiber.
Grapes
During my first trimester, I snacked on TONS OF GRAPES. They were addictive and easy on my stomach. While I love grapes, my craving for them has subsided.
Sweets (specifically ice cream and Skittles)
Good grief. I have a sweet tooth occasionally but it really reared its ugly head during pregnancy. My go-to was Clumpie’s ice cream. I like ice cream but I never really crave it really unless it’s hot. I spent many nights asking John if we could have dessert before dinner to make sure I have room for something sweet. Along with the ice cream came my addiction to Skittles. I’ve never loved Skittles so this was surprising. Even today, I’m still snacking on Skittles occasionally now (only the Wildberry flavor).
Banana toast
Towards the end of my pregnancy, almond butter toast with bananas, honey, sea salt and cinnamon became one of my favorite breakfast items. I ate it almost every morning. When I was feeling really fancy, I added strawberries. Much to my surprise, I haven’t had this since I gave birth.
Honey Nut Cheerios
This happened very early in my pregnancy. I’ve always liked Honey Nut Cheerios but purchased them *maybe* once a year. Pregnancy Shawanda made sure we kept them in the house at all times. Eating them is still a thing at the moment.
BBQ cheese curls
Whoah. This was a surprise. I love cheesy snacks (hello Cheez-Its) but cheese curls have never been in my snack repertoire. That is until I met Stubbs BBQ cheese curls. I became very much addicted to these and convinced friends that they also needed them in their lives.
So, what’s your favorite snack/pregnancy snack?
