Cocktail Week: St. Germain Spritz

Jump to recipe

I started cocktail week in 2015 to celebrate adult beverages in an approachable way. I’m not a bartender but I love to experiment and try out new things at home. You know, sort of like a home baker? But with cocktails instead. I love focusing on simple cocktails (check out one of my 5 minute cocktails) and I believe cocktails don’t have to be difficult to make at home. This year, I’m so excited to focus on SPRITZ RECIPES.

Cocktail week is coming to an end. I hope you’ve enjoyed the week I’ve also dubbed as: the summer of the spritz. I feel like I’m sort of ending on a classic note. We’re all familiar with St. Germain, right? I don’t drink it all of the time but on occasion, I love a splash of it with champagne. This is my first time trying my hand at a St. Germain spritz and I think I did pretty well.

So what’s St. Germain? It’s an elderflower liqueur, founded in 2007.

2007! For some reason I assumed St. Germain had been around much longer than that but it’s relatively new on the beverage scene. Anyway, it’s very sweet and a little goes a long way but that little can really add lots of flavor to a drink. Do you fancy St. Germain?

I wanted to end the week with something sweet and use a liqueur that most of us are familiar with. As a reminder here’s our easy-to-remember recipe for making any type of spritz you want:

2 oz liqueur + 3 oz bubbles + more bubbles (like club soda)

That’s it. It’s really easy. And as as much as I love an Aperol spritz, this recipe allows you to get a little crazy and try a variety of spritz recipes without being stuck with one spritz flavor. This recipe may be great after dinner or for a day when you’re just lounging on your porch. Instead of club soda in this recipe, we use ginger beer BUT the key to not having an overly sweet St. Germain spritz is choosing a ginger beer that’s not too sweet. You’ll want a really gingery ginger beer (my favorite). Doing it this way, allows the elderflower flavors to come through but we’re layering it with ginger flavors.

If you’re not a fan of ginger beer (WHO ARE YOU), you can simply replace it with club soda. My all time favorite ginger beer is Reed’s (the extra ginger one). I have other ginger beers that I regularly purchase but Reed’s is my OG brand – I’ve been drinking it since high school.

Alright, let’s make this easy St. Germain spritz. Try the other recipes from this week too: aperol spritz, amaro spritz, Pimm’s spritz.

Other ginger beer flavors I love:

Barritt’s | Goslings | Fever Tree
