Five Second Rule: Brussels Sprouts

I think it’s safe to say none of us really liked Brussels sprouts growing up, right? Back in the day (gosh, I feel like that makes me sound ancient) it seems like most people only prepared sprouts one way: boiled. Yuck. Not only did it not smell good but the texture was terrible too. As I’ve recently become a sprouts advocate, I’ve been making a running joke here that I’m just going to turn this blog in to a Brussels sprouts blog; I swear I feel I’m always experimenting with new ways to enjoy them. So today, I thought I’d round-up five of my favorite Brussels sprouts recipes.

That’s exciting, right? Or is it just me?

It’s probably just me.

Anyway, since I’m always trying out ways to prepare sprouts, I assume you are to. Why not put them all (well, not all) in one place so you can try them out too. The funny thing is, I recently made yet ANOTHER Brussels recipe. It won’t be included in this roundup but the recipe will be on the blog soon. I swear, I never thought I’d be such an ambassador the sprouts. Never. In the past, I probably would have gone real hard for green beans but Brussels sprouts have definitely won my heart over.

SWOON.

Maple roasted Brussels sprouts can convince the biggest sprouts hater. Their easy, delicious combined with a little savory and sweet.

Five Second Rule: Brussels sprouts recipes

As I’ve mentioned before, the Five Second Rule series is a series where I highlight five recipes featuring the same ingredient. I’ve featured olive oil recipes, lemon juice and of course, champagne. The point of this series is to show readers (1) how versatile one ingredient can be and (2) show you different ways to look at an ingredient.

I hope you’ll see these Brussels sprouts recipes and if you haven’t already, it will encourage you to step out of your veggie comfort zone and try something new. Let’s get cooking.

OVEN ROASTED BRUSSELS SPROUTS BITES
Talk about a different way to eat sprouts! These are like little chicken nuggets but without the chicken. They’re easy to make and you can dip them in an aioli or another dipping sauce and you’re all good. (RECIPE)

BALSAMIC GLAZED BRUSSELS SPROUTS
These are definitely one of my favorite Brussels sprouts recipes. The flavors seriously just explode in your mouth. There’s the flavor from the balsamic glaze and on top of that you have bacon (always a good thing), garlic and dried cranberries. The cranberries are like the cherry on the cake. (RECIPE)

Brussels sprouts don't have to be boring or disgusting. Roasted Brussels sprouts are delicious!

MAPLE ROASTED BRUSSELS SPROUTS
These are roasted with sweet potatoes, which in my opinion, make the sprouts even better. The maple syrup is blended with balsamic vinegar so it’s the perfect amount of sweet and tangy. (RECIPE)

BRUSSELS SPROUTS CAESAR SALAD
I’ve never made a Caesar salad before and the first time I did, it was with Brussels sprouts. What I loved most about this recipe is the Caesar dressing. Instead of mayo, I used yogurt and it made for a yummy salad. Try it. (RECIPE)

BRUSSELS SPROUTS SLIDERS (WITH BASIL VINAIGRETTE)
This is such an easy appetizer. It’s similar to a caprese salad but updated with sprouts. Oh and no tomatoes. Instead, I used apples which add some crunch and a little sweetness. The vinaigrette: you’ll definitely want to slather on other foods and salads. (RECIPE)
