Cocktail Week: W.W.O.D.

Jump to recipe

I started cocktail week in 2015 as an opportunity for me to celebrate adult beverages in an approachable way. I’m not a bartender but I love to experiment and try out new things at home. You know, sort of like a home baker? But with cocktails instead. I love focusing on simple cocktails (check out one of my 5 minute cocktails) and I believe cocktails don’t have to be difficult to make at home. This year, I’m so excited to focus on WOMEN INSPIRED COCKTAILS – I can barely contain myself.

You remember those WWJD bracelets back in the day? It stood for What Would Jesus Do. I don’t know who started the bracelets or the trend but I guess they served as a reminder that when you’re feeling down or in trouble, you’d look down at your wrist and ask yourself, “what would Jesus do?” then act accordingly. Whatever.

I feel like after that trend of WWJD bracelets, it sort of open the floodgates for lots of other colorful types of bracelets that we’ve all probably thrown in the trash by now. At any rate, the person inspired by today’s cocktail isn’t Jesus but she’s definitely someone I love listening to and appreciate her take on things. When I think of women inspired cocktails, I couldn’t do this week without this person. It almost seemed wrong.

Any thoughts?

Yep, it’s What Would Oprah Do.

Seriously, I can’t be the only person who has asked myself that question before. Oprah, just like Lena, is a friend in my head. Actually maybe a little more than a friend – an aunt. I love listening to interviews with Oprah because she’s wise, funny and really offers great insight and advice on many of life’s scenarios.

When I was much younger and the Oprah Winfrey Show was on, I remember writing a letter to her production company to try to get Oprah to visit my school. It didn’t happen but I did get a really nice response back from the company. Had I known what I know now, I probably would have held on to that envelope. Oh well. Hopefully I never forget that memory.

There have been many times in my adult life that I’ve been faced with a situation and I’ll read a quote or listen to a podcast from Oprah and she unknowingly helps me figure it out. Does that sound weird? It probably does sound weird especially given that I don’t know Oprah at all but this is my truth. One thing I know is that Oprah loves tequila so what would Oprah do when it comes to cocktails? Tequila!
