Every time I go to the movies, I always wonder who decided that popcorn and movies go hand-in-hand. I love popcorn and I especially like it when I go to the movies but it’s really noisy. I can’t be the only person who thought of this, right? The point of this post is to celebrate national popcorn day, yes, but I want to explore this crunchy snack for a second.
I’m one of those people who can’t stand the sound of other people chewing – it drives me insane. It’s a real thing and apparently it’s called misophonia. In addition to that paired with the loud crunching that popcorn brings, I wonder: who decided that popcorn and movie theaters go together? The crunching is loud and 99% of the time you’re going to drop bits of popcorn all over the floor then accidentally step on them as you leave the theater.
Sigh. All of these things go through my brain sometimes. Please tell me I’m not crazy and you think about it too.
Regardless on your stance on popcorn in the movie theater, one thing I hope we an agree on is that popcorn is delicious. I like a classic buttery popcorn and I enjoy making it at home. Sometimes when I’m not in the mood to pop popcorn, I have a few tried and true brands that can fulfill my popcorn snack craving.
National popcorn day – my favorite brands
Skinnypop. It satisfies all of the your snack cravings without making you feel bad about it. It’s light, it’s crunchy and flavorful without being overly salty. The original flavor is simple and one of my favorites. I also like salt & pepper and white cheddar. They have quite a few other flavors as well.
Orville Redenbacher. This is the OG of popcorn brands, right? I still love to keep a small box of these in our cabinet. The classic movie theater butter is my favorite.
Smartfood Popcorn. Smartfood is another brand I enjoy because it’s a light snack yet still fulfilling. They have flavor options ranging from movie butter, white cheddar and sea salt.
G.H. Cretors. I got a chance to try this brand a few years ago and I was hooked. My favorite is the mixed bag, which has cheddar and caramel popcorn. It’s the perfect combination of sweet and salty. So yummy!
