The Weekend

It was so difficult to get back into the swing of things last week with having so much time off of my “real job.” I say real job meaning my 9-5 because even though I was out of the office a while there, I still put in lots of work with the blog and The Brunch Collective. I think I mentioned in a recent post that John and I spent a lot of time over the holiday break at coffee shops trying to get stuff done. I’ve found that even though I work a 9-5 job, I’m getting way better at balancing the blog, my column and now The Brunch Collective (and the very little I do with The Chattery) but having time off definitely helped me with get organized and ready to tackle 2016 with all of my might.

The time off helped me realize that I should start listening to my own advice, which is to stop living for the weekends and start being happy for everyday instead. It’s a difficult mindset to break…the mindset of living for the weekend but I’m willing to give it a try. At any rate, this weekend we fit in a movie – The Big Short. Have you seen this movie? Its about the housing bubble bursting in 2008. Fascinating movie but you must pay attention. Saturday we hung out with friends to watch the NFL playoff game and Sunday was a rare day for us. We planned to go to another movie but instead, we stayed home pretty much all day. I cooked (a lot), got some work done, John marked some things off of his to do list and it felt quite nice.

One of the many things I did over the weekend…made a red wine simple syrup with leftover wine.

Tried my hand at making a drinking vinegar or shrub as they’re called.

Happy Monday!
