Tupelo Honey Cafe

A few weeks ago, John and I spontaneously frolicked to Tupleo Honey Cafe for dinner.  I went to Tupelo once but it was for a quick meeting and we had cocktails, which were fantastic.  This time, I knew I still wanted to try a cocktail but needed to try some food too.  This was a spontaneous visit as I wasn’t armed with my camera to take photos…just my handy iPhone, which is great for pictures but I’ll definitely try to have my ‘real’ camera next time.  Either way, I think you can tell that I like this place.  The drinks are really good, the biscuits and jam that they serve before your main course are my favorite and the service was impeccable. Can’t wait to go back when the weather gets warm,Tupelo has a fantastic patio!

Very colorful menus…I like.

The cocktail menu at Tupelo is constructed beautifully…obviously we had to have cocktails.  The name escapes me of what I had (so sad) but John had the Porch Swing made with Firefly Sweet Tea Vodka, peach puree, ginger syrup and unsweetened tea.

John ordered the shrimp and grits, which was massive and really tasty.  I decided on something a bit more simple and noshed on a grilled cheese sandwich with havarti and cheddar and a bowl of cheesy onion bisque with biscuit croutons. Usually you think of something like this as a lunch meal but this was perfect for dinner and really filling.

You can also purchase Tupelo’s own honey at the restaurant (and the jam).  I would imagine a small basket full of Tupelo’s honey and jam would make a great little holiday gift for someone. They also have cookbooks; another perfect gift for someone who enjoys being in the kitchen.

Headquartered in Asheville, we’re certainly glad they decided to open up shop in Chattanooga.
