5 Favorite Cookbooks

I love cookbooks and I have quite a few of them.  Some of my cookbooks I open pretty regularly and some of them…not so much. Whether you’re a new cook or an expert in the game, cookbooks can really be helpful when you’re in a cooking slump.  I love to use my cookbooks when I’m searching for new recipes or when I’m just looking for ways to enhance a meal.  I thought I would share a few cookbooks that are favorites of mine and should probably be on your kitchen counters or bookshelves.  Whatever.

Can you guess what the first one is?  Yep, the Joy of Cooking.  It covers pretty much every dish you can think of and even discusses different types of cooking techniques.  This cookbook has been around since the 30’s and it’s still pretty popular.  Also, as a shameless plug, I made a recipe from the Joy of Cooking and shared it on my Nooga column today.

I briefly mentioned eat tweet not too long ago when I made these orange butter fillets.  I think this cookbook is super fun but I totally understand that not everyone will agree with me but that’s ok.  If you’re into Twitter and cooking you may be intrigued. All of the recipes shared here are 140 characters or less.  I think it’s sort of cool while others may think it a little annoying to try and figure out these recipes.  Either way – I’m all over it.

I used to have this thing with Barefoot Contessa and by ‘thing’ I mean, I never watched her show or cooked any of her recipes.  I used to think she was – dare I say – unlikeable. [insert shock] At any rate, that was a long time ago and I’ve changed and quite honestly, I enjoy Barefoot Contessa’s show and I love this cookbook, Barefoot Contessa Foolproof: Recipes You Can Really Trust.  Some of her recipes may seem a little intimidating especially since they look so fancy but trust me, they’re foolproof.  So elegant and so easy.

500 Appetizers is a great cookbook.  First off, it’s small so it’s not going to take up a lot of room in your kitchen or wherever you store your cookbooks.  Second, it has 500 appetizer recipes!  Ok, that’s obvious but it’s like a little appetizer bible.  If you enjoy throwing parties like I do this would be a great resource since it has lots of options for easy appetizers.

How cute is this?  Little Paris Kitchen is a great cookbook for someone interested in French cuisine.  It’s a modern take on French food but it’s not a collection of difficult recipes that you can barely understand with old, outdated techniques.  This is good.  Rachel puts her own modern twist on it and thinking about it makes me hungry.
