Have you ever made your own hummus? I haven’t but maybe I’ll add that to this year’s list of food resolutions. In the meantime, I just buy my favorite brand and call it a day. Lately, as people are scrambling and stressing out over holiday parties, I’m always looking for deliciousness and level of ease when I think about snacks for said parties. Throwing a bunch of stuff on toast, is always a good idea – which is where this hummus toast comes into play.
By ‘throwing stuff on toast’ I don’t mean you don’t have to think about it at all – there is *some* level of thought that goes into my lazy-ish appetizers. BUT DON’T OVERTHINK IT.
Here’s why I really love throwing ingredients on toast:
- Guests can just pick it all up at once (very easy if you’re holding a beverage in one hand)
- It allows you to get a lot of flavor in one bite (always a win/win)
- It takes barely no time to put together
If you’re feeling really fancy, by all means, make your own hummus. I don’t have a recipe for you to try but I’m sure if you Google ‘hummus recipe’ something yummy will appear. I decided to take the easy way out and purchased my favorite Sabra flavor, supremely spicy (ooooh it’s good). I really suggest you do the same especially if you’re thinking about serving these for a party.
Easy snack idea: spicy hummus toast
Another thing I love about this idea of hummus toast is that once you add your hummus base, you can honestly top it with anything. No really, anything. Here are some topping ideas: caramelized onions, roasted garlic, pepitas, pears, creamy cheeses – the list can really go on and on.
So when you’re entertaining and hosting a party, none of us really have time to reference recipes when guests are coming over real soon – am I right? So to combat that, this spicy hummus toast doesn’t have a recipe. If you can make toast and spread hummus, you don’t need a recipe – trust. But don’t worry, I’m not going to leave you hanging. Here’s a brief guide on making hummus toast:
Grab a baguette or a fresh loaf of bread from the grocery store or your favorite bakery. Slice into bite-sized pieces (well, maybe two bite-sized).
Drizzle olive oil on top of the bread and broil it until it’s browned just a bit. Here’s my warning whenever I suggest using your broiler: please, please, please don’t leave the room. In just one second your beautiful bread can be burnt like a crisp. Keep an eye on it.
Remove from the oven and let it cool for a little. Spread on the hummus then top with your favorite add-ons. Here I used roasted red peppers and five spice powder.
Ta da! You’re done. Happy snacking.
