My Walmart Grocery Pickup Experience

There are so many programs out there now that make running simple tasks like going to the grocery store a breeze. Actually not just grocery store tasks but all the tasks. From Uber Eats making it possible to get food delivered from restaurants who normally don’t deliver to Shipt, which delivers grocery items straight to your door. I mean, we really never have to leave the house again if we don’t want to. A few friends gave me rave reviews about Walmart grocery pickup so naturally, I had to try for myself.

I want to note that this post is not a sponsored post. As always, if I’m partnering with a brand, I’ll always let you guys know.

OK, that’s out-of-the-way. Let’s move on to the service. As much as I love apps that make my life easy, I have to admit, I was a little apprehensive to try this. There are reasons for my apprehension but the main reason is pretty simple: I love grocery shopping. I love writing down my lists on a piece of paper then marking items off in the store as I go. I’m old school that way. The other reason is pure laziness. Going through my phone and picking out items seems so tedious and I wasn’t sure if I was interested but since my friends told me Walmart grocery pickup was good for them, I had to see for myself.

My first order wasn’t very large but it was a big enough order for me to really test it out. I downloaded the app and after I personalized my account a bit, I went on my merry little way. Because I am over the top at times, I had already written down my grocery list then used the app to make sure I got everything.

The process was relatively easy and not as painful as I thought. I mistakenly ordered a pound of onions instead of just one onion.  Looking back, I’m not sure if I even had the option to purchase just one onion so that totally could have been user error. What I do like about Walmart grocery pickup is that if you order something that they’re out of, they’ll replace it with another brand at no additional charge. When they bring your groceries out they’ll tell you what was substituted and you can say yes or no.

You can save items too. Let’s say there’s an item you order all of the time, by saving it as a favorite, you don’t have to spend a lot of time searching for it within the app. Picking up the groceries was crazy easy too. First, you pick the time and day you’d like to pick up your items then they’ll email you (you can choose a text message too) when it’s ready. You then “check in” and it tracks you so that a Walmart associate knows you’re on your way. The best part? You don’t even have to get out of the car! Just pull in and they come right to you – it’s a dream for someone like me who doesn’t *always* like talking to folks (blame it on my only child syndrome).

The results

Alright, I still go to the grocery store to get my groceries. Generally speaking, my love for crossing things off my grocery list outweighs my need to do Walmart grocery pickup every week. However, when I’m pressed for time or have a pretty simple grocery order, I’ve used the pick up service and it’s made my life much easier.

Even though this isn’t a service I’ll use on a weekly basis, it has definitely become an app I use when I need it. I have yet to have any problems with it and in my book, that’s a good thing. Now, if they added delivery service, I might change my mind and start using it more regularly.

Have you tried Walmart’s grocery pick up service? What did you think?
