It feels like I haven’t cooked in weeks. It’s partly true mixed with a little bit of fiction. I’ve cooked minimal things but lately life has been a little busy. I’m starting to not like that word “busy” but it’s the word I can think of that best describes my situation. Despite being “busy”, I do firmly believe that you make time for the things you want to make time for. Simple. And quite frankly: I haven’t really wanted to make time for a lot of things lately. It’s not because I don’t care it’s simply because I have a lot on my plate at the moment. Lucky for me, bourbon milkshakes helps me forget about my responsibilities for a moment.
We’ve been fundraising for The Chattery and though that should just about be over as I type this – it isn’t. We’re raising the last $3500 and even though it’s such a small amount in the bigger plan, it seems like such a daunting task.
Anyway, we’ve extended our campaign due to happenings out of our control and I’ll be honest, I cannot wait for us to meet our goal and sip on these boozy bourbon milkshakes.
Dessert AND a cocktail: bourbon milkshakes
I have a love/hate relationship with milkshakes. I like the idea of them but they’re always too much for me. So I never order them. I used to be obsessed with the cookies & cream milkshake from Chick-Fil-A. I haven’t had one in years though. My relationship with milkshakes probably have something to do with my intolerance to lactose sometimes.
Despite my lactose drama, I decided to keep the dairy in this particular shake. I have been toying with non-dairy items lately (and I’m a fan) but this time, I wanted to keep it classic. Bring on the dairy (yikes).
I’m typically not a fan of milky alcohol beverages but y’all: this was delicious. The bourbon blended with the coffee ice-cream is a wonderful combination. I think the next time I make this bourbon milkshake, I’ll throw in a different type of cookie in the blender – why not? Obviously this works great with chocolate chip cookies but I wonder if sugar cookies would work or maybe even peanut butter. Even though there are cookies IN the milkshake, you can also use them as a garnish or as a dipping mechanism. Take a piece of cookie and use it to scoop our some milkshake if you’re feeling real jazzy.
I will say that if you have time, you can bake your own cookies or you can take the easy way out (like I did) and buy some from a bakery.
Let’s make this shake.
Ingredients
- 2 cups coffee ice cream (I used Haagen Dazs)
- 1 cup ice
- 1 cup milk
- 2 ounces bourbon
- 4-6 chocolate chip cookies, plus more for garnish
Instructions
- Combine ice cream, ice, milk, bourbon and 6 cookies in a blender until smooth.
- Pour milkshake into glasses and garnish with a cookie, if desired.
