Prosecco Poached Peaches

Jump to recipe

I never know when specific fruits and vegetables are in season. I just have no idea. Perhaps The Chattery can host a class just for me – teaching me how to figure out when my favorite fruits and veggies are actually in season. Maybe if I’m armed with this information, it will prevent me from aimlessly wandering around the grocery store asking where the cherries are (which is an exact situation that happened to me). I was devastated when the store employee told me THEY WEREN’T IN SEASON. I mean, a chart or something would have been nice. Anyway, today I’m here to talk about peaches – specifically: prosecco poached peaches.

So, once I went to the store and the fruit I actually wanted was in season. While most people would just eat the peach, I decided to poach them. Poaching fruit (or anything for that matter) is rather easy. My favorite poaching fruits are peaches and pears. I don’t have too much experience in poaching other fruits but I imagine it’s easy and delicious. You can poach fruit in whatever poaching liquid you choose. Wine, simple syrup, liqueur or even tea.

Today we’re choosing prosecco poached peaches because it’s very yummy and it’s elegant. Poached peaches (or any fruit) make for an awesome dessert option when entertaining. If you have any reluctance to baking, this is a perfect substitution. No need to have your oven on and make a mess – just poach some fruit!

How to: prosecco poached peaches

Food52 has a great guide on poaching fruit without using an actual recipe. I’m always in support of ‘non-recipes’. You know what I mean? This is a bit of a recipe because I’m providing you with a few measurements to make this easy BUT I implore you to try doing this on your own without a “real” recipe.

You can do it – I know you can.

I served these peaches in coupe glasses which adds to the elegance of it all. There’s also two additional reasons for doing this: (1) it’s a serving vessel to eat your peaches and (2) it’s a glass so obviously you can use it to sip the leftover prosecco poaching liquid (YUM). Feel free to get a little crazy with serving this and add your favorite herbs or even edible flowers (I’m a sucker for edible flowers).

Happy poaching. And don’t forget to double-check what’s in and out of season before you plan your poaching adventures. Trust me.
