Grapefruit cucumber cocktail with gin

Jump to recipe

This post is taking me longer to write than normal because I keep taking breaks. I’m going to Miami in December and I keep looking up random things. Museums, restaurants, bars – you name it, I’m researching it. I’ve been to Miami several times and each time I try to explore something different. Miami has a cool vibe. A vibe that makes me feel like I should be drinking refreshing beverages like this grapefruit cucumber cocktail. Even though I’m going for a conference, I’m hoping to be able to explore Little Havana this time around.

Have you been to Miami? Or Little Havana?

I love exploring specific neighborhoods of major cities and getting to know the restaurants and other businesses in the neighborhood. Besides researching and getting lost in all things Miami, I started re-watching “Schitt’s Creek” and it is definitely making me LOL all over again. Have you watched? It’s about a family who loses all of their money and have to move to a small town that they own. They purchased it as a joke when they were wealthy. It’s really funny and it’s currently distracting me.

That and John’s snoring (help me).

Grapefruit cucumber gin cocktail – an ode to summer

I was having a conversation recently about fall and how the current temperatures reflect that it’s still summer. I want to make it clear that I’m, in fact, in no hurry for winter. Being cold is terrible BUT I could benefit from slightly cooler temperatures. Cool. Not cold. Got it?

This grapefruit cucumber gin cocktail is a perfect transitional drink. We’re always talking about our wardrobes being transitional and moving between seasons but guess what? Food and drinks can be transitional too. This drink is really light in flavor. There’s nothing too overpowering about it. Unless, of course, you’re one of those weirdos who don’t like cucumbers. If that’s the case, you can skip this recipe.

I imagine sipping this cocktail in a garden or something. That’s something people do, right? Anyway, make this drink. Not feeling the gin? Use vodka instead. Need more sweetness or a little depth of flavor, try adding St. Germain. Cheers!
