John just asked me the other day if saltines were good for you or if they were strictly for eating when you’re sick. I don’t know where that question came from or what prompted it but it made me laugh. We don’t typically have saltines in the house but I had some (a lot) left over after buying a box to accompany soup and I didn’t want them to fall by the wayside. What in the world would I do with crackers besides crumbling them on top of something? Insert cinnamon crackers.
Alright if you think saltine crackers weren’t already addictive, wait until they’re coated in cinnamon and sugar. Oh and butter. Did I mention the butter?
Butter makes every recipe better, right? I think this is a really low-key snack that you can make when you’re having a casual party. It’s not the fanciest looking snack but it’s yummy and very easy to make. Not quite like cinnamon toast crunch but close.
Easy snack: cinnamon crackers
So, I tried these with regular ol’ saltine crackers but I imagine these would be extremely delicious with Ritz Crackers. There’s something about Ritz Crackers that I just LOVE. Seriously I’ve been known to just stand in the kitchen and eat an entire sleeve – unintentionally, of course. Now this may sound weird but another way I used to enjoy crackers is with jelly.
Hear me out:
I loved putting grape jelly (other flavors if I had them on hand) and sandwiching the jelly in between two salty crackers. Does this sound odd? It probably does but let me tell you, it was my guilty pleasure for quite a while. I think there was an episode of Sex in the City about Carrie enjoying eating jelly crackers while standing in the kitchen reading a magazine. I guess we had that in common.
I haven’t had a jelly filled cracker in a really long time but as I write this, I’m kind of wishing I was eating some right now. Try it and let me know what you think.
OK back to cinnamon crackers. You probably have all of the ingredients in your kitchen. So if you’re having some friends over for a casual night to watch your favorite show, consider making these cinnamon crackers. I’m sure they’ll be gobbled up in minutes.
