This weekend, as I sipped my adult (read: alcoholic) slushie, I wondered if I was becoming one of “those” people. A person who sips whiskey and Coke slushies while dreaming of avocado toast* and then finishing it up with a ramen burger. There are a lot of current food trends and I try not to listen to the nonsense. I typically eat what I want. However, as I sipped my whiskey and Coke slushie, I thought: what other food trends have I unknowingly tried.
I came across an article recently about food trends for the summer. There are items on the list like over the top milkshakes and crazy bloody Mary’s, which doesn’t interest me at all. I chuckled to myself though as I continued to read about nitro coffee and wine slushies. I’m planning on sharing a wine slushie here soon and John and I have found that we enjoy nitro coffee.
As I write this, I’m sipping a beverage from a Mason jar, sitting in a coffee shop and contemplating ordering some trendy, hipster dessert. Sigh. I’ve become one of them. I should also mention that I received an exciting package this weekend. It was champagne gummy bears. Those should probably be on the top of all of the food trends list. I am a walking food trend contradiction.
Other weekend activities
The rest of the weekend consisted of catching up on podcasts, getting some work done and traveling to Nashville. I also made time to do some much needed reflection this weekend. Reflection on the bad things happening in our country and simple reflection on life in general. John’s uncle passed away last week and dealing with the shock and aftermath of that has led me to do a lot of thinking.
This weekend’s professional reflection has led me to watch this Oprah clip over and over again because its resonating with me so much (thanks Jennifer for sending it). Looking forward to a new week.
Happy Monday!
*I actually don’t love avocado. Sue me.
