Lunch at the Glenn Hotel

I will always love Atlanta, really, I will.  I spent 7 years of my adult life there.  I turned 25 in Atlanta, I created my blog in Atlanta and I met John in Atlanta.  So, being that Atlanta means so much to me, it’s no surprise that I’m there quite often – it’s a very short drive from where I currently live.  If you read my latest Weekend post, you’ll see that I was just in Atlanta this past weekend celebrating the birthday of my best friend.  While in Atlanta, I always try to visit restaurants or bars that I frequented when I lived there and sometimes, if time permits, I’ll try and fit in something new.

This time around, John and I had lunch at the Glenn Hotel’s restaurant, Glenn’s Kitchen.  The Glenn hotel is located in the heart of Downtown Atlanta – walking distance to SkyView and just steps from Philips Arena and CNN. The Glenn Hotel also offers beautiful views of the city on their rooftop bar (!!), which I love; I’m not just saying that because I had a surprise birthday party there a few years ago.

My date.  Cute.

We started with an appetizer and cocktails (of course).  By the time we headed there for a late lunch, we were definitely ready to eat!

We tried the sweet potato chips and blue cheese fondue.  I love sweet potatoes and blue cheese is an acquired taste and typically not an everyday cheese for me.  But I really enjoyed nibbling on this app.

Seriously, the sweetness from the chips mixed with the bitterness and sharp flavors of the blue cheese really melted well together.  You don’t need a ton of the fondue on the chip though…unless, of course, that’s what you like.  In this case, a little goes a long way.  I’m already thinking of ways I can try and recreate this dish when I can’t get to Atlanta.

Ahhhhh! This was by far the tastiest drink I had all weekend. I love spicy foods not too big of a fan of the spicy cocktails but I’m branching out.  I thought since it was Sunday FunDay, why not try something I probably wouldn’t normally drink.  Great decision.

This is the Stephanie’s Kiss made with: jalapeno infused vodka, ginger beer and Chambord. There’s a slight possibility I may be missing an ingredient or two but it was delicious.  The spice from the jalapeno was in no way overwhelming but it was just enough heat to pique my interest.

I kept it pretty simple for lunch: lemon marinated grilled chicken sandwich. Mmmmmm.

John ordered the shrimp and grits but this isn’t the shrimp and grits you’re thinking of…this one is made with duck sausage! Oh yeah.

We ended the meal with just one more cocktail. This was a house cocktail made with Four Roses Bourbon. This drink didn’t have or need any ‘bells and whistles’, it’s made so that the bourbon does all the talking…

Did I mention it’s made with their own batch of Four Roses Bourbon?  Fancy.

If you’re in Atlanta, be sure to frolic to the Glenn Hotel. Great location and the rooftop is by far one of my favorites of this venue.
