Menus & Music: Amy Winehouse [Spritzer]

I love Amy Winehouse.  I was devastated when I found out she passed away.  Devastated.  Her music, in my opinion, is timeless.  I still listen to Amy and always find some way to include one of her songs in any playlists I’m creating. In this edition of menus & music, I had to have some type of ode to Amy Winehouse…involving wine no less.  When I started brainstorming ideas of drinks that I could make, I knew I wanted to involve red wine and not white and I knew I wanted something that would have a little fizz.

Usually wine spritzers involve some red or white wine and a bit of club soda; I knew I needed and wanted something more.  I’ve become obsessed with Ocean Spray’s sparkling juices.  They come in these super-cute small cans and even though they don’t have a ton of different flavors to pick from, they have enough to pique your interest.  This red wine spritzer is perfect now that spring is finally here.  You can sit on your porch and enjoy this or you can have friends over and serve them this refreshing spritzer.

If you frequently visit my blog then you know I’ve given up alcohol until Easter. I feel it’s important to note that this spritzer was made before I started my non-alcoholic adventures.  You can bet that as soon as this little journey is over, I’m making one of these while enjoying a little Amy Winehouse.

Here’s what you’ll need to enjoy this drink:

bottle of red wine (I used Merlot)
Ocean Spray sparkling juice (I used citrus tangerine)
fresh orange juice
orange peel for garnish

Pour wine in a wine glass; top with Ocean Spray.  Squeeze a little orange juice in the glass and garnish with an orange peel.

Lastly, sit back, relax and enjoy one of my favorite Amy Winehouse songs…
