Football season is alive and well. Even though I like football, I sort of have a love+hate relationship with it. My love+hate relationship with football has nothing to do with the actual sport but the seasons. When football season appears, it makes me think that Winter will soon rear it’s ugly head. Can you tell I’m not a fan of cold weather? Anyway, the show must go on whether it’s cold or not. While most of of don’t have the pleasure of attending a professional football game during the season, that shouldn’t stop you from doing a little tailgating at home. A couple of Sundays ago, I decided to make turkey corndogs and turkey burger sliders for a little sideline tailgating…on the couch.
The corndogs…
It’s safe to say that these weren’t the perfect corndogs that you see at the county fair but they certainly were delicious. I used the same batter for the corndogs that I used for my waffles when I made chicken and waffles sandwiches. I used chopsticks for the corndogs, which are very inexpensive and can be found in your local grocery store. Before you dip the hotdogs, be sure to pour your batter into a tall glass or something cylinder like; it’ll make life much easier when you’re trying to coat the hotdogs.
I can’t have corndogs without condiments. I made a sriracha ketchup and a maple mustard (also the same from the chicken and waffles sandwiches) and it was delicious. The spiciness from the sriracha and the sweetness from the mustard was perfect.
Turkey sliders…
Sliders, no matter how you dress them up, are always so easy and perfect for a party or tailgating. Anyone who knows me knows my obsession for ketchup so for the sliders, I made a smokey ketchup. My smokey ketchup consisted of cumin and chipotle chile powder.
