Feature Friday: Saucy Sicilian

I love Italian food; I always have.  Until recently, I thought I was pretty knowledgeable of most of the Italian dishes that we all enjoy.  Sure, we’re all aware of of the most common dishes that are served in an Americanized way at restaurants but how familiar are we really with Italian food?

Earlier this year, I had the pleasure of meeting a young lady (Sarah Cate) through a class we took together.  I soon realized that not only did I like her (and her sense of humor) but I was in love with what she and her husband were trying to accomplish: an authentic Italian food truck in Chattanooga.  Soon after meeting her, I was able to sample the products they would be selling and I was sold – and full.

Welcome to the Saucy Sicilian.

This isn’t a spaghetti and meatballs truck. The Saucy Sicilian will specialize in arancini. Not sure what it is?  You’re not alone.  Until I tried it, I had never heard of this dish let alone had in it a restaurant!  My words or pictures just don’t do it justice but trust me, these are pretty delicious.

The short version of what an arancini is: fried risotto balls stuffed with pretty much whatever you want.  You can have a it filled with meat, something sweet or even a veggie option.  I recently tried the spinach and mozzarella arancini and it’s definitely one of my favorites.

Here’s the deal with the dynamic duo behind the Saucy Sicilian: they’re not quite a food truck yet but they can be with our help.  This husband and wife team have been raising funds to make their food truck dreams a reality via Food Start – a crowdfunding site.  They recently reached 20% of their goal but still need more!  The link to find out how you can help Chattanooga’s authentic Italian food movement is below but first…
