Holiday Gift Guide: Black owned businesses

As I write this, I’m recuperating from a quick getaway to Miami and I’m having a real hard time concentrating.  I keep thinking about the warm weather, the sun and the palm trees. And now I’m back to ‘real life’ and really cold temperatures. I’m not going to get into my whole soapbox about my disdain for winter – you’ve heard it before. Today is all about giving you some inspiration for holiday shopping and this time it’s: black owned businesses.

So far for 2018 gift guides, I’ve covered women-owned businesses and kitchen essentials so I’m excited to share these recommendations.  I hope you learn something new in these gift guides and support these businesses not only during the holiday season but all year round, OK? Promise me you’ll do that. Oh! And if you’re interested in seeing which black owned businesses I included on this gift guide last year, here ya go.

BLK MKT Vintage – This is another company I discovered on Instagram and I’ve been obsessed. I purchased a old Luke Cage comic book for John from them and I love everything they curate. From music to historical political items, they have it all.

Ayok’a art prints – To start a meaningful art collection, you have to start somewhere. I’d suggest starting with a few of your favorite prints like these from Ayok’a. There’s a variety of designs and themes – you really can’t go wrong.

Food Before Love pins – Everyone loves a pin that you can place on your lapel or denim jackets, right? These pins are super-cute and they come in different shades (SCORE!). I have this one.

Philadelphia Printworks tees – I love good graphic tees especially ones that have powerful messages. I discovered this brand on Instagram and immediately became a fan. They have tees, sweatshirts and hoodies. Here are a few of my favorite pieces: gentrification tee, Shirley Chisholm tee, Chisholm for President sweatshirt.

Divine Purity – This is a Chattanooga-based company that specializes in a variety of homemade products like candles, soaps, lotions and more! John and I love all of their products because they smell good and they’re locally made. Any of their products will make wonderful gifts and stocking stuffers.

Christa David art – Christa David is a painter and collage artist. Her artwork is gorgeous and makes the perfect gift.
