I thought long and hard about including this on my ‘five minute cocktail’ section. I mean, it’s a margarita – it’s not overly complicated so technically it shouldn’t take more than 5 minutes to whip one of these babies up. To be honest, apple cider margaritas aren’t a new concept in the drinking world or here on the blog. The truth is, I posted this recipe in 2013 (soooo long ago). The photos weren’t that great and I thought I could have a redo and so here we are!
I love apple cider though I only drink it when it’s cold. But here’s the thing: I don’t always warm it up when I drink which means, technically – I could just enjoy it even in the summer, right? For some reason, apple cider is a beverage I only associate with fall and winter. However, with these apple cider margaritas, I think I’m opening up an opportunity to drink these year round – not just when the temperatures drop.
I’ve mentioned here before times that I love margaritas. I love them in many variations: on the rocks, frozen, flavored, traditional flavor – whatever. Margaritas used to be a major part of my weekend ritual while living in Atlanta. Every Sunday I would get together with a group of friends and we would head to our favorite Mexican restaurant, sit outside and enjoy copious amounts of margaritas. Ahhh those were the days. Unfortunately, I haven’t really found a replacement here in Chattanooga – not one that fills my Atlanta void but it’s OK. I know spend more time making cocktails at home and that’s fun too.
Five Minute Cocktail: apple cider margaritas
Not too long ago, I mentioned I was making apple cider margaritas to someone and they sort of recoiled. Not too much but I could see the hesitation. You may be shaking your head too as you read this but I would NEVER lead you astray. I just wouldn’t – don’t you trust me?
So instead of a traditional salt rim, I did something a little sweeter instead of salty. I did a blend of brown sugar mixed with Raw Spice Bar’s cardamom summer spice blend. If you don’t have a cardamom summer blend, simply using brown sugar will be fine. Usually, you citrus served with margaritas. This time around instead of limes, I kept it in the citrus family and used an orange.
If you have just 5 minutes to spare, you can make this cocktail. Let’s do it.
Ingredients
- Brown Sugar (for the rim)
- 2oz Tequila
- 1.5oz Triple Sec
- 3oz Apple Cider
- Orange peel for garnish
- Cinnamon stick, for garnish (optional)
- Star anise, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Rub the rim of a glass with an orange slice slice then dip it in brown sugar.
- Fill a cocktail shaker with ice and add tequila, triple sec and cider. Shake, shake, shake.
- Pour into a glass filled with ice and garnish.
