So here’s the thing, occasionally I come up with lovely recipe ideas at the most inopportune time. Sometimes it’s in the middle of the night, while I’m at the grocery store or usually when I’m driving. I hate it but I love it at the same time. This is why I keep a notebook or a stack of post-its on my nightstand and I always keep a notebook in my purse (or at least I try to) when I’m out and about. I also have a notebook specifically for recipes. I keep track of things that I’ve cooked and will share here or on my column; if I made changes to a recipe, I note them in this little notebook too. Generally, I’m pretty good about this. Until now. As I prepare to share this cocktail with my delightful readers, I realize…I didn’t really write down a recipe. I did however, find a post-it with the words “cranberry smash/bourbon”. Great. At any rate, the good thing about cocktails like this is that you don’t really need recipe – you can just add liquids as you like. That’s the beautiful thing about making drinks.
There’s a sort of recipe at the bottom of the post.
What you’ll need:
handful of fresh cranberries
granulated sugar
fresh lime juice
bourbon
ginger ale
What to do:
Grab a few cranberries and place in the bottom of a glass (or a cocktail shaker).
Sprinkle cranberries with a bit of sugar (cranberries tend to be bitter) and add a squeeze of lime juice.
Muddle cranberries, lime juice and sugar together.
Add bourbon and ice (shake if using a cocktail shaker and pour into a serving glass).
Top with ginger ale.
Yummers.
OK, what's your secret to finding fresh cranberries this time of year?? When I made the cranberry salsa, I couldn't find fresh or frozen, so I had to use canned whole cranberries (it was still wonderful by the way).
This looks great, and I'd love to try it.
