If you’ve been reading my last few posts, you know I’ve been watching Jane the Virgin on Netflix. It’s still just as out of control and I’m still slightly entertained. I’m currently on season 4 and I hear that season 5 will be the final season. I know I’ve been talking a lot about television lately – that’s probably because it’s my refuge when I’ve had a busy or exhausting week. In addition to Jane the Virgin, I have something else to tell you about.
When The Good Wife was on, I was obsessed. Did you watch it? I love most legal shows and that one was top-notch. So there’s a spinoff of The Good Wife. I had no idea. I probably didn’t know because it doesn’t come on CBS – it’s on their CBS All-Access app (insert eye roll). We were really fighting getting yet ANOTHER app for our TV-watching pleasure. I mean, one can only have so many. Luckily, a DVD set of the first season of The Good Fight (spinoff) came into John’s possession. SCORE!
We’re currently watching the second season which we temporarily have the CBS app (against our will) but we’re in the free trial period, so it’s cool. So The Good Fight is a little different than the original show for many reasons. One of those reasons is the cursing. I’m not talking about beginner curse words here – I’m talking grownup sh*t. There’s also some nudity. So yeah, it’s like The Good Wife times 10. I won’t give anything away but the show still takes place in Chicago but follows Diane Lockhart (you remember her from the original) in a new predominately black law firm.
It’s so good.
5 minutes cocktails – spritz recipes
I was going to try and relate these two subjects: spritz recipes + The Good Wife spinoff but obviously, I can’t. What I will say is that sipping a spritz goes really well with watching anything, really, but it pairs exceptionally well with drama-filled television.
I recently refreshed my subscription to Bon Appetit, my favorite magazine, and I’m so glad I did. Not only is it a great resource for recipes but I usually love some of the social commentary on current food trends. Anyway, it was in a recent issue of Bon Appetit where they talked about an easy ratio for making a delicious spritz. It’s relatively easy. They suggest a 2:3 ratio (liqueur to sparkling wine) then garnish. See? Easy, right?
Overall, the winning ratio for a winning spritz is the following:
2 oz. liqueur (like Pimm’s, Aperol or Campari)
3 oz. sparkling wine (like prosecco, rosé or champagne)
ice
Splash of soda (club soda, ginger beer, etc.)
Garnish
Even better? You can set out all these ingredients for a party or something and let your guests take a stab at a DIY spritz situation. I think that would be fun. I made a couple of spritzers for you to try but feel free to get wild and try some of your favorite flavors.
