Golden Girls Cocktails: Rose Nyland | Eat.Drink.Frolic.OK guys, we’ve made it to the end of my Golden Girls themed cocktail week. We’re ending it on a light and refreshing note with a drink in honor of Rose Nylund. Rose was known as the sort of innocent, dopey, airhead character. She was always telling stories of her hometown of St. Olaf, Minnesota and none of the other ladies were ever interested in hearing those stories.

Rose’s character was caring and very sweet but not the sharpest tool in the shed. The antics and comments of Rose Nyland definitely made for entertaining television. One thing I can say about Golden Girls is that it tackled lots of hot button issues that a lot of folks were afraid to talk about. I remember in one episode, Rose and the rest of the girls, dealt with HIV testing and awareness. In another episode, I remember Blanche trying to understand her brother’s disinterest in dating women. He later admitted he was gay but not before lying and saying he and Rose were having a fling. You know, to throw Blache off of the trail.

Rose Nyland’s take on a lot of these issues was naive at times but usually very honest. Rose was quite sweet even though sometimes it could be viewed as annoying.

It couldn’t be tequila or whiskey because I don’t imagine Rose drinking that (even though I could be wrong). I could, however, see her sipping on a glass of wine or even better, some sort of wine spritzer.

Wine spritzers are very light and not too overwhelming, like Rose. I did decide to add just a little vodka to this drink because, let’s be honest, even Rose had a rough day every now and then.
