Like building a bar, building your kitchen ‘library’ is super-important. I’ll be honest, I have a lot of useless items in my kitchen that were popular at the time that I purchased them but now they’re collecting dust. Oh well. Even though I still hold on to my now useless gadgets, there are a few staples that I consider my must have kitchen items.
Depending on where you are with your cooking skills, your kitchen gadgets will vary. For instance, when I moved off campus in college, I wasn’t cooking gourmet meals. So at that time, a microwave, pots and pans and some bowls/plates, were all I really needed. As I upped my cooking game (i.e. started this blog), I also upped my game with kitchen tools and accessories. That’s probably where my habit for purchasing useless items came from.
OK so today’s post is pretty simple: I just wanted to share a handful of my favorite kitchen items that I find are most useful. Even though I own one (or two) lemon zesters, you won’t find anything like that on this list. Event though I use my zesters, they’re not completely necessary for your cooking adventures.
My must have kitchen items
Kitchen shears
Y’all do you own kitchen shears? If not, you should. I love a couple pairs and I love them. They make life just so crazy easy and I couldn’t imagine a kitchen without them. Get you some.
Digital scale
Another item that has made my life SO MUCH EASIER in the kitchen. It’s especially handy when you’re baking and want to get exact measurements. I just love my digital scale so much. I’ve measured out so many random ingredients using it.
Food processor
I’ve never been a believer that having a food processor was necessary – until I got one. If you decide to purchase one, make sure it can perform multiple tasks like chopping, slicing and shredding. I’ve shredded Brussels sprouts and lots of other things.
Nesting bowls
I know this may seem like a weird item to have on the list but hear me out. Nesting bowls (that serve as mixing bowls) are super-useful. Mixing bowls are necessary for the kitchen and if they’re nesting bowls, they don’t take up lots of room.
Dutch oven
Trust me when I say: a Dutch oven is one of the best items you can have in your kitchen. It’s perfect for the stovetop but they can also go in the oven and they hold such great heat. I’ve braised things, made soups and everything in between. Hands down my favorite. Get one.
