3 Lessons I Learned from Blog Inc.

Recently I’ve been doing a lot of research and brainstorming on revamping my blog – some of which includes a site redesign (coming soon).  One of the books that I’ve read was Blog Inc., written by Joy Cho of the blog Oh Joy!.  Love her blog and loved the book even more.  If you’re a blogger or hoping to be a blogger, no matter what subject you’re blogging about (fashion, food, design, etc.) these three tips that I picked up will be very helpful to your success.  Here we go.

Be active online

Since most of us bloggers aren’t really able to network in person, being active online could be considered our version of networking…digital networking.  This includes leaving comments on your favorite bloggers’ posts, following them on Twitter or liking them on Facebook.  Leaving spam-like comments aren’t a good idea but if you genuinely enjoyed a post – why not let the author know?

Collaborations are key

Reaching out to other like bloggers for guests posts or even collaborating with companies and brands that you admire and that line up with the theme of your blog is always a great idea.  Collaborating will not only give you an opportunity to network but it will also open up your fan base and expose your blog to additional readers.

You CAN blog full time

While there are a lot of bloggers that have successful blogs while holding down a full time job, there are even more bloggers who are fortunate enough to blog full time.  Blogging full time is sometimes made possible through multiple collaborations and from the relationships you build in the blogging world.  It can also happen by joining blog ad networks or affiliate programs.  Ad networks can help bloggers gain access to advertisers that you wouldn’t normally have contact or a relationship with.
So there ya go. Three lessons I picked up from Blog Inc.  See, this blog isn’t just about eating, drinking and frolicking; there’s a little learning thrown in here too.

These are all great tips! I blog full time, so these are all important things to monetizing a blog. I never heard of this book before your post, so I will definitely have to check it out! Thanks for sharing 🙂
